contrast: in art it is necessary to create contrast to see and feel. Life as a frame of our visual thinking, also need that contrast in order to perceive  But , also like in real life, we can choose to make it smoother in order to   avoid   to be  hurt by  shapes. Ancient Greek  accepted the richness of chromaticism as in religion, after which religion started to make difference between  what was good and bad,  denying the positive aspects of contrast, by rejecting dichotomy that nature is made of,  including human been.
